Student Learning Objectives: Collaboration
The student effectively collaborates for the achievement of individual, organizational, professional, and societal goals.
Artifacts for Collaboration
I have collaborated with students, librarians, faculty, non-profit organizations and community members during the course of time in the LIS program. I collaborated with others on coursework and projects, internships, and employment. During my role as a Graduate Assistant, I had the opportunity to collaborate with many faculty and staff from various departments in School of Education. I assisted with organizing and coordinating events. My most memorable experience of collaboration was when I assisted the Teaching Resources Center in organizing an event for Pre-K students from on-site campus daycare center. The purpose of this event was to connect Pre-K students with Teaching Resources Center's library collection and services. As well as, introducing students to Librarians and the library.
My fellow GAs and I designed a day to read to the students and discussed the role of a librarian, and the importance of having a library card. We worked together to plan and organize this event. I assisted with creating a day filled with books and activities. I incorporated time-slots for dancing and singing with the GA's, so we could keep the young students engaged in the stories and activities (I felt like the library version of the wiggles and I loved it!). I applied project management skills to make sure this event ran smoothly. I kept an open line of communication with the GA's and teachers because I wanted to make sure everyone's needs were met. This was my first time interacting with Pre-K students on this platform and it was imperative that our first interaction with these students were memorable and influential because It was the students first time being introduced to the library and librarians. This event was a success because we all worked together to accomplish the goal. This experience alone has helped me understand how impactful my role is as a Librarian. Collaboration is an essential tool for Librarians because it connects people from all of over with information resources and services.
