STUDENT LEARNING OBJECTIVES: Technology
The student applies appropriate technology for effective information services
Artifacts for Technology
Before attending this LIS program I lacked technology skills. I began using a laptop computer in 2012, for only writing papers and online-shopping. My technology skills have advance so much! I learned how to create websites and tutorials, operate audio and visual equipment, edit both audio and videos. You name it, I can do it, or I can teach my self how.
In LIS 650: Media Production course, I had the opportunity to record and design an amazing PSA about libraries. This was a very fun project for me to complete. I was able to interview real people and record their responses on why libraries are important to them. I really enjoyed creating and designing a video that advocated libraries and its importance. I was also employed as Instructional Designe creating e-learning modules for diverse users. I effectively incorporated new technologies such as, Adobe Captivate, WebEx, and Camtasia to coordinate media production, meetings, as well as to provide instructional training for various projects.
During the summer I completed an Atkins fellowship as an Electronic Resource Management Fellow at J. Murrey Atkins Library. I was tasked with managing and implementing Coral Electronic Resources Management System, where I reviewed, coded, and organized over 125 license agreements and contracts from vendors. Additionally, I collected, selected, and entered over 700 electronic resources records from various systems, such as, Serials Solutions, OCLC Connexion, and Millennium. My effort in these tasks granted the E- Resources Librarian the ability to locate e-content in one place. During the fellowship, I became adept in reading and coding license agreements, as well as maintaining and monitoring an Electronic Resources Management System. This summer fellowship led to Full-time employment at UNCC. I now work as an Electronic Resources Management Specialist at UNCC managing E-Resources full-time by using Alma (Ex Libris). The management of Alma (Ex Libris) entails: vendor contacts, consortium agreements, usage statistics, licensing terms, and other account and subscription information. I gather usage statistics by collecting data through COUNTER reports and SUSHI Protocol. My other major tasks are: monitoring and troubleshooting access issues for Atkins library’s E-resources, communicating and reporting technical issues and problems to vendors, as well as, resolving access issues for our users. I am constantly amazed at my advancement with learning how to utilize technology in the library.
