Advocacy
I must promote intellectual freedom and lifelong learning. It is vital to prepare learners and assist them in achieving success in and out of the classroom. I will actively reflect and evaluate my teaching and make the necessary changes that will contribute to my students' educational and personal achievements. It is imperative to advocate for better resources, services that will provide learners with creative and innovative tools that will be more effective for the students' learning experience. Advocate for the learners while teaching them self advocacy skills. I will motivate learners, stakeholders, and the community and get them inspired about education, teaching and learning, resources, services, and emerging technology. It is a personal commitment an instructor to assist learners, stakeholders, and the community in seeing the value of education and thinking outside of the box on ways we can make experiences better for learners.
Universal Learning Design
It is my personal goal to incorporate different formats and mediums to accommodate different learning styles. This will give learners multiple ways to connect with the material and give learners equal access to information. All learning styles are not created equally. As a Librarian and Instructional designer, I must do my part and diligently assess the audience and design for the diverse learners and accordingly. There isn't one size fits all lesson plan. Learners need to interact with course material in different mediums. (e.g., audio, video, and visual, kinesthetic). In turn, this will create a inclusive learning environment.
Provide Feedback
It is essential to help learners find their way and help them restore confidence when they are learning new information. Learners need prompt constructive feedback and a clear explanation of what they did doing wrong so they can improve. We must create a safe and trusting place and provide tools to make effective changes. Some of my college instructors were ineffective because they did not give prompt, clear, and concise feedback while grading assignments. As an Educator, it is imperative to incorporate a supportive environment that offers quick constructive feedback that communicates to the learner the exact error they made and how they can improve.
